Many moons ago in a fed far, far away, I became curious to how my actual record was with Ol' JPL. The bossman of the fed kept extensive records and I copied them over into a spreadsheet. Additionally, he also ranked the Top 10 promos every week, which I always thought was a great way to reward people for great promos (lost in the main event but still had the second best promo of the week? At least you get some credit!), as well as it let the midcard and lower card know where they generally stood with the more established workers. Ever curious to how I am progressing and trending, I started keeping track of how I ranked any given week. Being even MORE curious, I started paying attention to my friends and others within the fed, and started looking at stats for other notable names from the past, and did my best to compare apples-to-apples.
Fast forward a couple of years and I was in an extremely talented and competitive fed and I started all of my stuff up again. THAT bossman not only ranked a Top 10 promos every show, he published every score AND gave feeds for every single promo, which was insanely awesome (legit, I can't shut up in our praise for the short-lived CWT). I began tracking the entire fed's wins/losses/draws, gave weight to Top 10 considerations every week (which was the bulk of the points in that system), and other things. Fast forward AGAIN a couple of years and I'm here with what has become the "final" version of my spreadsheet. Points break down as thus:
Win: 2 pts
Loss/Draw: 0 pts
Main Event Win: .5 pt
Championship win: 1 pt
This way, any random win is worth 2 points, but a championship win in the main event is worth 3.5 points, or nearly TWICE as much, thus making those wins MEAN more. This way, there is weight to "big" wins. For instance:
10-match win streak: 20 pts
10-match midcard title win streak: 30 pts
10-match main event title match win streak: 35 pts
Additionally, there is a bonus applied which helps to break up the pack and give structure: Your win percentage earns you up to two points, so that someone that is 10-0 has a slight edge over someone who is 10-5. For shiggles, I also have the "impact rating," as I call it, calculated, which helps to add a little flavor. That is simply your total points divided by your total matches, which tells us how many average points you earn per match. A fantastic real life example of someone who has a KILLER impact rating would be Brock Lesnar, as EVERY match he is in involves a title in the main event. Ultimately, the Cool Rankings reward consistency.
So...why do you do this?
Purely for my own amusement. Literally the only people who actually care about this beside myself are probably just a couple of other nerds, because nerds. People close to me like to give me shit over it, but I have fun doing it, though it is certainly a labor of love. If anyone else gets some enjoyment out of this...great! Its meant to be fun. I have always had a vision of it "mattering" from an In-Character perspective (hence the in-depth "reports" Sar has done a few times), but I know that most people think it is horrendously stupid. But! For those few who look forward to it, I hope you enjoy it.
Disclaimer
There WILL be a few errors. There has been 161 individual performers in XWF in 2019 at the time of this writing, and human error will be a factor. Additionally, there is the issue of people being taken out of matches and/or matches changed because of no-shows and/or politics, so there WILL be times when I have someone taking an L for a match that they "weren't in," for some silly reason or another. But! I am confident that this is 95% correct or higher!
Personally the few times that you have posted these here I have absolutely loved them. The only complaint I have is that it’s not consistent enough, but for doing something extra I can’t complain one bit. I hope you keep up the great work on this and don’t ever feel pressured to do it, unless it’s by me, and on Twitter, then you have to do it!

🤔
This is an example of how some errors might arise because there can be differences between matches as they are booked and matches as they happen in results, especially while cross-checking. I imagine I originally wrote it as a win, then on review realized it was originally for the title and then fixed the "error," likely while double-checking your numbers. Fixed, now! Smaller gap between us!

I like to give "championship" victories for special events or occasions, should I feel they warrant it. In this case, I wanted to give the handful of survivors an extra bump in prestige for succeeding in such a tough format, especially considering that no actual championship matches were on the card.
