Prologue

*Jason Evans was never the type of kid to back down. He was never the most popular, the funniest, or the smartest. He was never good or bad at one thing. He was average. Brutally average. Yet, that’s what made him stand out. Everybody was either really bland or really bubbly, exuberant almost. Jason was stuck in the middle. While the kids below him flunked or totally dropped out of high school, the kids above him were the Harvard graduates. The surgeons, the perfect family men, the millionaires. Jason Evans was never particularly happy nor was he ever sad. Despite his average life, he was still missing something. And it took him 14 and a half long years to find it.

Jason had always been a wrestling fan. He was born during the Golden Age, where the rulers were the Hogans, the Savages, the Warriors and Flairs. He grew up watching Stone Cold, The Rock, Triple H, and Kurt Angle. But it wasn’t until he got into high school and hit his growth spurt that he realized he had a gift: he was great at wrestling. He was a three time Massachusetts State wrestling champ, his only loss coming in his senior year during the championship match. Wrestling gave Jason a purpose. He was the most touted wrestler coming out of high school. He had the biggest and smallest of colleges nearly stalking him, all of them chomping at the bit to land a once in a generation talent. With this in mind, and 18 years worth of being the underdog now behind him, Jason made a decision that would change his life forever: he cut ties with his closest friends, many of his family members, and all of the colleges attempting to sign him. All for a shot at a professional wrestling contract. He was contacted by SCW scouts, promising him a developmental contract and enough money to live comfortably and keep his head above water. He accepted with the mindset that he would get to do everything he could have in college, except with a paycheck at the end of the week. But at 18 years old and fresh out of high school, Jason had a lot to learn about the world.*[/color]

*Backstage at XWF*
The camera begins rolling, and we see a close up of Steve Sayors with a mic in his hand.

-Steve Sayors-
“Steve Sayors backstage with XWF’s newest acquisition, fresh off of the indies, Jason Evans.”

The camera pans out to see Jason Evans standing next to Steve wearing a black t-shirt with the XWF logo on it. He gives the camera a smile that reaches from one ear to the other, before turning his attention to Steve Sayors.

-Steve Sayors-
“So, Jason. After five years on the independent circuit, you have finally reached the Main stage, XWF! How does it feel to know that all of your years of hard work, blood, sweat, and tears have paid off?”

-Jason Evans-
“Steve, it’s a great feeling. I’ve always been considered an underdog. I’ve been turned down opportunities in many wrestling federations just on the excuse that I’m ‘not marketable’ or that I’m ‘too average’ Well, to all my naysayers, I’ve finally proved you wrong.”

-Steve Sayors-
“I’m sure you are on cloud nine Jason. Let’s talk about your background. You turned down hundreds, if not thousands, of colleges. You were the best collegiate-style wrestler in the entire country. Yet, you walked away. You moved from Massachusetts to Florida full time, only to sign with a floundering indy promotion. What was your thought process behind that move?”

Jason starts stroking his beard, looking down at the ground now. He’s thoroughly thinking about the question. After a moment or two of silence, he begins to speak.

-Jason Evans-
“At that time, it was the only thing that made sense to me. I was a young kid who could have gone to the college of his choosing free of charge, yet chose, like you said, a floundering independent wrestling promotion. And here’s why Steve: my whole life I aspired to be something more than average. And sure, being the most sought after wrestler in the entire country is a big accomplishment, but I wanted to be a superstar. That was my dream from a young age, and nothing was going to stop me. If anything, I think my move to Florida cemented my status as an underdog. I remember people would come up to me on the streets or even after shows and scold me for not choosing their favorite college or for not choosing a college at all. Maybe I deserved it. I guess I thought being a good collegiate wrestler would help my chances of becoming a marquee superstar. I don’t think it was the decision itself, but instead it was the motives behind it that irked people. But unless you’ve been in a position where everybody doubts you, nobody expects you to be anything more than average, then you don’t understand the fire I had under me; the hunger in my stomach. All of that is behind me now. The only thing I’m focused on is fulfilling my dream of becoming a superstar. I got the spot on the roster, now all I need to do is perform.”

-Steve Sayors-
“And perform you will Jason. Next question. Now that you’ve been given a roster spot, what will your first move be? Will you be gunning for the world champ, or will you take the scenic route, and start at the bottom?”

-Jason Evans-
“Well, quite frankly, I don’t think I have much of a choice where I start. Sure I may have been revered on the indies, but this is the main stage. Nobody knows me. A few hundred of my old fans might tune in to watch me compete, but aside from that, this is a fresh start for me in some ways. I will work my ass off day in and day out. I won’t let anything stop me. I could be put in a ring across from a circus clown or a grizzly bear and I’d give it my all. So if people are expecting me to coast my way to the top, it won’t happen. I’m here to make a name for myself, and it all starts with grinding every week.”

-Steve Sayors-
“Well Jason, one last question. Will you be content with anything short of a world title reign here in XWF?”

Jason sort of chuckles as Steve asks his final question.

-Jason Evans-
“If that’s what it takes to get recognized at a high level such as this, then sure. I’m not here for the money, or the championships. I’m here for the personal glorification. I might go down as the biggest jobber in the history of wrestling, or I could go down as the most decorated champion ever. Wherever I end up in the grand scheme of things, as long as I’m taken seriously and given the respect I deserve, I’ll be happy.”

-Steve Sayors-
“Thank you Jason for your time.”

We see Jason smile one last time at both the camera and Sayors before he walks out of the frame. The camera then cuts to black.
