October 22nd, 2016

Paul Singer lives in a luxurious mansion on the outskirts of Aspen, Colorado. The building stands with its own unique and distinct style that contrasts the mild climate and aesthetics of the surrounding area. White marble walls cast a long shadow to the west of the home, and a tower juts out of the back half of the home.

A sleek, black gate slowly opens up allowing a casually dressed visitor access into the property. Walking up a winding brick path lined with lavender and roses, Thomas Nixon smiles. His blue jeans and v neck shirt hint that this is a casual encounter, but there is significance to this meeting.

With a knock on the door, Thomas was quickly greeted by his close friend.

"I'm so glad to see you, Thomas! It’s been too long! Come in and take a seat." Singer bellows, and Nixon follows him into a larger, open room.

With the door shut behind him, Singer casually leads Nixon into a living space with a couch and two high end chairs. A glass table rests between the decorative furniture.

"I'm glad these circumstances have finally presented themselves." Nixon smiles.

Without drawing any attention to himself, Singer began his transformation. His skin grew rough and rigid, while they gained a bright green hue. The scales emerged all over his body, as his head shape elongates. His eyes become sharp and golden, and he grows a bit larger.

The site of a giant lizard wearing tight fitting human clothes would be a concerning sight to most people, but this is nothing unusual to Thomas Nixon.

The reptilian humanoid takes a seat in a floral chair embroidered with gold lining; Nixon follows suit opposite of his friend.

"I can't tell you enough how happy I am to see! This occasion has cause for excitement!" The lizard speaks, which surprisingly sounds like a human with a bit of a scratch to his voice.

"This truly is the start of something historic that both of us have been waiting a long time for. We're finally going to accomplish what we've wanted for decades, and I can't help but be a bit impatient about it!"

"Thomas, I do need to give you a preface of sorts. I didn't call you here just for a celebration. I need to discuss some important things with you; you've probably considered a lot of things I'll tell you now, but it’s important that we get it all out in the open.” The lizard’s speech shifts from an upbeat tempo to a more melancholy tone.

"Once you debut in XWF, you're going to have to make a lot of sacrifices. With all eyes on you and your fight for equality, some people in high places will be looking in on everything you do.

For the next few months, and probably the four years after, we're going to be under a regime that has good reason to hurt our people. The upside is they haven't found many of us, and they don't know our main locations. The problem is, they can follow your trails if you maintain contact with us. They'll know that you are someone to watch, and they're going to hone in on places you go to for unclear reasons and potentially tap your devices.

You need to watch the tracks you leave behind."

The tension in Singer's words were laced with fear. The optimism of his initial sentiments are counteracted by the precautions that he suggested.

"You know I'm not naive. I know the kinds of things that happen when the wrong people are tipped off.

We've watched enough people close to us die, including your father. Brave, powerful people have died and I'm done allowing that to happen. Losing an elder like Semiazas was hard enough for our clan to take, and I can't imagine the things that would happen to our community if we lost you, Daziazas."

"These are reasons why I have faith in you, Thomas. We are taking a risk. In the past, we have wanted to earn our rights when we had allies in government. The issue is we were always on the backburner. There were too many other issues to take care of. Now, the field is ready to be disrupted, but the leaders of our country are variable.

The only constant is you, Thomas. They say the best predicator of the future is the past. I've known you your whole life, and you have always exceeded our expectations. When we thought you would fail, you succeeded. You even took things a step further in ways that show your immense dedication and love to our community.

When you took care of Kenny, and then even McNamara, you avenged the lives of many that we have lost, and that only furthers our immense trust and faith in you. That is why I'm condoning your endeavor. You have a lot of odds against you. The political climate isn't favorable to us. Right now, there is an immense amount of societal pressure from Americans to their government, calling on them to end intangible things that aren’t related to government at all. Rape culture, intrinsic biases, the wage gap, and bigotry have nothing to do with government and they can't fix them. A lot of people falsely feel victimized.

I'm deeply afraid that they will find out we are truly oppressed, and they will ostracize us. They want to be the victims, and they can't play that role when we talk about the brutal killings of our race. If these radicals oppose us, our cause might be ignored or dismissed."

"You worry far too much. You can't give these outrageous protestors more importance than they deserve. If I can get the common fan on my side, then we will have more than enough people to usher in a new era of freedom and liberty for the lizard people. You can't underestimate the general public, and victimized liberals aren't the majority.

When I tell the people how I feel, I guarantee that they will join our cause. Everyone can relate to the losses I've had and the struggles I've faced. Lizards and humans are on the same emotional spectrum, and people will understand that this is not a joke. So help me god, once I've proven I'm a threat in the ring, people will learn that my sentiments are just."

The lizard chuckles which shocks Nixon. He poured his heart into those words, they represent how he truly feels about the situation.

"You’re optimistic, or maybe I'm just getting old and bitter." Daziazas laughs.

"I just want to remind you of one thing. Although the last decade has been calm compared to the latter half of the 20th century, we are still under scrutiny from an administration that most Americans voted for. Don't forget that. Even if the people accept us, we need to worry about the higher ups and the radicals.

But you have my blessing. You know you have a target on your back, but you're smart. You have good judgement, you have the stamina to make a difference. Now let us celebrate! To the beginning of the end! The end of oppression!"

The scene fades out as Nixon rises to his feet to follow his reptilian friend to get refreshments and drinks.

* * *

{Many of the anxieties and fears that arose during that meeting remain to this day. Although I’ve gone out of my way to avoid contact with my kin, I still worry that I am putting them at jeopardy. And, needless to say, I’m worried that something has happened to everyone I know and love in my tribe.

As I go into my match Saturday night, I’m going to have a lot on my mind. I need to earn my spot in the Television Championship match, prove that I can be the figurehead of PATROL, and I need to maintain the trust of three XWF wrestlers that are choosing to blindly follow me.

Jervis asked me a curious question. He asked if I could arrange a meeting between him and a lizard person, but this is something that I can’t ensure. There’s too many eyes on me; the government has a target on my back. But I don’t want my allies to lose faith over something so practical, and I can’t fault them for that request. That’s why it’s so important that I don’t blow my chance of getting into the Wild Card four way bout.

The most troubling thought that keeps coming to my mind during my match preparation regards the safety of my brethren. I haven’t met with any of them since I saw Daziazas in Athens. We may have a lame duck president, but he isn’t completely powerless yet. He still controls the domestic agencies that have been tracking the habits of the lizard people for several decades. I find it hard to believe that he won’t push the lizard people deeper into repression in his last few months in office. On the other hand, they could be totally fine. I just don’t know, and finding out would only put them all at risk.

The most reassuring thought I have going into this bout is based around the proverb that Daziazas alluded to in our last meeting. “The best predicator of the future is the past”. When I look back at the battles I’ve fought, the hardships I’ve overcome, and the respect I’ve earned, it’s easy for me to be confident about my chances in this three man match. Not only have I watched people die in front of me, but my actions have killed people. People that deserved vengeance.

I’ll give credit where credit is due, they probably are great athletes here in the XWF, but I don’t think they have as much staked on this match as I do. I need to send a message in this match, and I hope these guys give it their all because it will only make my win more impressive to the fans and my companions in PATROL. Davis and Gator aren’t just stepping stones to the top of the card; we’re going to put on a hell of a match that the crowd will remember. That’s how I’ll cement my message.

When I wrestled Alexis Riot, I pulled out the win, but our match was brutal. She connected with some strong offense, and I nearly killed her with a power bomb off the ring apron. That match will live on in the minds of the fans in attendance for a long time because of our energy and intensity.

I hope this triple threat match is exactly the same. I’m willing to dig down deep in me each and every week to prove that I’m one of the best. I can give all I got to eke out a win, and then the crowd will understand the extent of my mission. PATROL will buy into my leadership, not just for the trios title opportunity, but because I’m a player here in XWF.

I hope Jakob Davis and Blue Gator bring their A game because I want a fight. Not an easy win. Not a golden ticket to a title match. Let’s give the crowd what they want to see. Chaos, violence, and passion is what they want, and I’m bringing it.}
