OOC: This RP takes place immediately after Happiness New Seemed So Near…
Back at Pryce Industries.
Theo hangs up the phone after his short call with Jimmy. He did it. Theo can barely believe it but somehow, someway, despite the odds, Jimmy Durance learned how to get a woman into bed with him. And Theo couldn’t be happier. Though Theo doesn’t have any children of his own, that’s he aware of anyway, he can’t help but feel a sense of pride, like what a father would feel for his son when he hit’s his first homerun, or takes that really pretty girl to the prom.
After hanging up the phone and just sitting back for a few moments to take in the pride he is feeling over the accomplishments of his personal aid, he is interrupted by the sound of his secretary’s voice coming over his phone.
“Mr. Pryce, your 10 O’clock is here.”
“Wonderful. Send her in.”
Theo takes a quick second to adjust his tie and make sure it is perfectly placed in the small space between the collar of his French pressed shirt. The doors to his office open and in walks a leggy raven haired woman in a black pant suit with thin silver framed glasses. In her right hand appears to be a black attaché folder. As she approaches Theo’s desk, the CEO get’s up from his seat and walks around the desk to greet her.
“Hello Ms. Jacobs, my name is Theo Pryce.”
“Hello Mr. Pryce, Isabel Jacobs.”
“Isabel, that’s a lovely name.”
“Thank you very much.”
“Please have a seat.”
Theo then motions for Ms. Jacobs to have a seat in either of the two open seats in front of them. After Ms. Jacobs picks her seat and sits down, Theo walks back around his desk and sits down in his seat opposite her.
“So Ms. Jacobs I assume you brought a resume of some sort?”
“Absolutely.” Ms. Jacobs reaches into her attaché folder and pulls out a resume that is at least two pages long. She reaches across the desk to hand it to Theo, the motion also gives Theo a quick glimpse down the woman’s blouse which to that point had been hiding some ample cleavage. “It’s right here Mr.Pryce.”
Looking through Ms. Jacobs’ resume Theo see’s a few things that will help him direct his line of questioning. “So I see here that you graduated from the University of Southern California with a degree in Business Management and a Masters in Business Administration.”
“Yes that is correct.”
“Well if you don’t mind me asking Ms. Jacobs, with that kind of education, as well as real world experience. I see here 3 years at Princeton Plainsboro Teaching Hospital in New Jersey working directly under the Dean of Medicine, why would you answer a posting for a Personal Assistant?”
“May I be honest with you Mr. Pryce?”
“I’d prefer it if you were.”
“Well, three reasons actually. First, it’s a good way to get in the door here at Pryce Industries. Second, it pays more than the job I had, and third it gets me out of the awful weather of the East Coast.”
Theo leans back in his chair slightly and chuckles a bit at Ms. Jacob’s openness during her interview for his assistant.
“Well I’ll tell you what Ms. Jacobs, you absolutely have the education, and obviously the experience, for me the biggest piece was whether I could see myself spending as much time with you as I will need to day in and day out. I ask a lot of my assistants, long days, potentially some weekends, definitely some travel. You would be paid for all of that of course. Additionally you would have to do some menial tasks like picking up dry cleaning, fetching coffee, you know, the more cliché stuff. Is that something that would interest you?”
“Very much so.”
“Well then Ms. Jacobs consider yourself my new Personal Assistant. Welcome to Pryce Industries. If you could, on your way out please ask my Secretary to call Mr. Willis in HR and he will come upstairs to start going over the new employee paper work with you, that is if you have time?”
With a somewhat flushed look on her face, Ms. Jacobs quickly responds “Absolutely. I have all the time in the world. Thank you Mr. Pryce, I won’t let you down.”
“I shouldn’t think so. Have a good day Ms. Jacobs, see you tomorrow bright and early at 8am.”
“Yes sir. Thank you sir.”
“You call me Mr. Pryce, or Theo. Not a big fan of the sir thing.”
“Yes…Theo.”
“Good day Ms. Jacobs.”
Ms. Jacobs get’s up from her seats and calmly walks out of Theo’s office, shutting the door quietly as she does.
Introducing Isabel Jacobs…Theo’s New Personal Assistant.
As Theo finishes up a round of practice putting in his office with his new state of the art putter the doors open up and in walks Jimmy Durance, Theo’s former assistant, not that Jimmy knows that yet..
“Well what do you know, he does still work here.”
“Do I?”
...or does he?
“Geez Jimmy, back from an all expenses paid vacation, one where you even manage to get your noodle wet and you come back here with an attitude? What gives?”
“Well, I went to my office so drop my stuff off but there was someone in it. A dark haired woman named Isabel. She said she works here now, that she was your new personal assistant. Is that true?”
“Yes it is. I was hoping I would be the one to tell you but no bother, this works just as well.”
“You replaced me with a woman? That figures. Talk about cliché.”
“Calm down Jimmy. I did replace you, but before you go off half cocked and say something crazy, I did not fire you.”
“You didn’t?”
“No Jimmy, I didn’t. I told you before that I have no plans to fire you and I meant it. Here, come walk with me.”
Theo puts his new putter down, leaning it against the side of his desk, he then grabs his suit coat off his chair and casually throws it over his shoulders and then buttons the top two buttons. He then leads Jimmy out of his office, down the main hall of the executive wing and into a fairly spacious office at end of the hall. There is very little in the way of office furnishings, a maple desk, a desk chair, a nice book shelf placed behind the desk and a couch off to the corner of the office.
“This Jimmy, this is why I replaced you.”
“A big office is why you replaced me?”
“Yes it is. You see, I didn’t just replace you, I promoted you. You are going to be the new Executive Vice President of Operations at Pryce Industries.”
“The what? I’m going to be what? But that’s Ms. Erica’s job.”
“Yes it is. And it will continue to be for a little while.”
“So then why am I getting this job if Ms. Erica is already doing it?”
“Well Jimmy, that’s the catch. I did promote you, and you will get a company car, a membership to the local country club, all that jazz but you see, you won’t actually get to start this job for a few years.”
“A few years?”
“That’s right Jimmy. Here’s the deal, you’ve done a great job as my P.A, you’ve dealt with more sCENSORED than any one person should ever have to, and 95% of the time you do it with a smile. As a result you are being promoted, but, in order for that promotion to take effect you need to pass a rather lengthy training course. You see Erica went to school for this stuff, she was groomed for her role by our father, and now you are going to be groomed for the role.”
“By Ms. Erica?”
“No. And you can call her Erica. No you’re training is going to be with Rich Smithfield out of our New York City office. He’s very good, one of the best actually. He is going to teach you everything you will ever need to know about how to do this job. Every few months I will either come to New York, or fly you back here and we will talk about your progress. Is this acceptable to you? I know it’s a bit of a big change as you would have to move across the country, all of which will be paid for by us. We will put you up in an apartment in Manhattan, or a townhome in Washington Square if you would prefer that, you won’t have to worry about a thing in that regard.”
“Of course it’s acceptable. It’s the best thing I’ve ever heard. I don’t know what else to say. Thank you.”
“No Jimmy, thank you.”
Jimmy extends his hand, hoping to get a hand shake from his boss, instead…
“Let’s hug it out.”
Fade out.
