NEW YEAR NEW LIST

JANUARY 2025

I've gotten this up a little late this month due to life being life. Please note, the latest results from Warfare and Anarchy have NOT been factored into this. This is fresh off Snow Job, and February and March bring an exciting period for ELO as every match for the annual tournament carries a small multiplier. In addition, the final match gets an extra multiplier akin to winning the Universal Championship. That's how prestigious this tournament is! Fun fact: 'King of the XWF' was actually the top prize once upon a time, in a period of Universal Title inactivity. Anyway, here are the highlights for this month!

Biggest ranking rise:
  • 'Cavortin' Jake Borden - I'm not sure anybody saw this coming. Rising a whopping 5 ranking places, it might be time for the world to stop looking at Cavortin Borden as an underdog!

Highest debut/return:
  • Game Girl - Former number one on the rankings, albeit in a bit of a weird time when there were some missing show records and therefore smaller eligible names for the rankings list, Game Girl has returned to the list with a higher rating than she ever did when ranked number one! One must wonder if this mean's she's about to level up?

Eyes on:
  • Madison Dyson and Dolly Waters - Even though Madison's ranking hasn't changed, and Dolly's only went up by once (creeping into the top 10 again for what has to be the record for number of times coming in and out of the top 10), winning the tag team championships has seen both of these women have made significant rating point climbs - about 40 points each.
  • Prince Adeyemi - How could I not mention him? Climbing only two spots almost does a disservice to the 60 rating point increase Isaiah King has earned this month. Breaking the 1800 mark, he's officially in the upper echelon - as if his second Universal Title reign wasn't enough to make that point already.

UPDATED FOR FEBRUARY 2025:

Ten names added to the list this month! So if you've been around for a few months now and waiting to see your name pop up - for a lot of you, this is that month! With such a big number being added, and only 3 being removed, this becomes a bit of a 'net negative' month, seeing some large drops down the bottom of the list, as most new names were added spread around the 1600 mark.

Fully OOC Reminder: These are for fun, and only for fun. Treat them more like the PWI 500 or something like that. They don't affect your trajectory at all within XWF, and there are some inherent biases that a v2.0 is going to try and work through later in the year. Don't dismay at a low ranking (and don't get self-important over a high one). The staff see your hard work regardless of what my silly calculations say.

Biggest ranking rise:
  • Prince Adeyemi - A month of inactivity sees the Universal Champion actually rise in rankings by 2 places. Wait... WTF? I guess now should be as good a time as any to give a quick refresher how this works. Rankings are based on ratings. Ratings change based on activity. If characters with a higher rating take some losses, that rating is going to fall. If that rating fall drops below another character's rating, then the rankings change too. Adeyemi's rating did not change. But others above him did. So this rise isn't because of work on Adeyemi's behalf, but a general evening of the field as the highest high and lowest low all moved slightly towards the centre this month. He's a beneficiary of luck this month, but come March? He's going to have to defend that title and prove any doubters wrong! He's certainly capable of doing just that.

Highest debut/return:
  • Enigma - This might surprise some, but Enigma's return to the rankings list at Number 11 still carries with it the weight of some of the quick and notable success he found back on the old Madness brand. Warfare requires a different skillset, however, so the challenge for Enigma is going to be proving the rating applies here too. Is he up to the task? Only one way to find out.

Eyes on:
  • James Shark - Before inputting the calculations, I would have bet on Shark taking the nod for highest debut/return. Coming off a massive win against Sebastian Everett-Bryce (who still sits atop the rankings - barely holding on above the magic 2000 mark), and before that having one of the most successful debut months in XWF history, Shark is right behind Enigma on the list and it's reasonable to believe the top 10 is within his reach in the very near future.
  • Lucy Wylde - An astonishing drop leads to a unique opportunity for the former tag team champion. Is Lucy really only the 25th top star in the XWF? No. With no disrespect to anybody higher than her, but on the right day, Lucy can beat all of you. Granted, the same can be said about most of the roster right now, but specific to Lucy - her work back at War Games showed just how dangerous she is. If anything, this month Lucy is not just the recipient of a big upset loss, but happened to fall in the wrong place at the wrong time as a bunch of new names slid into the rankings. I expect her name to climb this list in the future.
  • Everybody still in the King/Queen of the XWF Tournament - There are 3 more rounds to go - all of which will happen in March. Which means the winner has 3 more matches with a special modifier to the points gain. 2 of those matches will be at a PPV which adds another multiplier. The final? Gets a 'World title' level modifier added as well. The winner of this thing has the potential to gain some big points. Of note, however, is that both Tropical Punch and the reigning king, Kieran King, would need to go through the whole tournament AND feature in one more match in the next 3 months before they would feature on the list at all.

UPDATED FOR MARCH 2025:

Biggest ranking rise:
  • James Shark - Climbing 5 places, the new Universal Champion leaps into the middle of the top 10 in only his second appearance on the list. If he keeps this momentum up, who knows where he'll get to?

Highest debut/return:
  • Larry Tact - The only eligible name for this recognition sees the newcomer - to the fed, but not to the business - debut at number 19. Tact is in an interesting spot, still riding a massive points accumulation from knocking off Vinnie Lane in his debut, but also a few notable wins from the cross-promotional buzz circa 2022 and the surrounding years. I'm eager to see him turn that into forwards momentum.

Eyes on:
  • Madison Dyson and Dolly Waters - The Tag Team Champions are both here for different reasons. Dolly Waters is in what seems to be familiar territory - falling a ranking place even though her rating increased. James Shark's rise is the only reason why. Madison Dyson knocked off the number one in Sebastian Everett-Bryce - and forced him under the 2000 mark for the first time in 6 months and climbed into number 3 herself. But it's their work together that keeps them both rising in ratings and makes the task to take the titles from them a herculean one.
  • Aurora - She may not have won the tournament but with the TV Title now around her waist, I suspect Aurora has won a few fans and hearts. Things are clicking there, and everybody should be on notice.
  • Yelena Gorgo - The 24/7 bug may have struck again, but for my money Yelena Gorgo has one of the most interesting character arcs going on in her rps, and with the Black Rainbow now behind her, big things could be on the horizon.

UPDATED FOR APRIL 2025:

Please note - Mayday 3 results are NOT factored in. It's hard to get these up on the first of the month at times, so the show date being what it was, I couldn't beat the results dropping. Mayday will be in May's update.

Biggest ranking rise:
A month of only 2 shows doesn't see a ton of jumping around. And with only one addition to the list this month (and nobody leaving it), a lot of people got bumped down just 1 rankings place. Buuut... FOUR different characters did manage a rise of +1!
  • Isaiah King
  • Lucy Wylde
  • Marisol Vilaro
  • Tatiana Jolee
Great job getting solid wins this month that put some momentum behind each of your characters! Looking forward to seeing what's next!

Highest debut/return:
  • Thunder Knuckles - The former Universal Champion and XWF tag team icon, Thunder Knuckles returns at number 7, fresh off winning the Anarchy Tag Titles. While he's been largely content in the tag space for now, his return has shaken up the whole list - with him coming in so high it resulted in many people who may have actually improved their rating see their ranking decrease. It's all relative, folks!

Eyes on:
I'm going to cheat here since we know the results of Mayday, but I haven't done the calculations yet. Based off that event, I'll be keen to see what happens with:
  • Larry Tact - Coming off winning the TV title, he's sure to get a boost in the rankings. I for one, hope he has a long and prosperous reign!
  • James Shark - Who said Shark couldn't successfully defend titles? He's shaken that bogey with a massive defence against an incredibly game Yelena Gorgo. This should do Shark a world of good in the ratings - with a main event and World Title multiplier on his calculations.
  • Dolly Waters - Knocking off the former Universal Champion, Isaiah King, has surely got to be enough to get the Tag Team Champion Dolly back into the Top 10. The question is, how high up?
  • King Kieran - He's not on the list for April. But I can tell you that his tie with the current second-placed Mark Flynn, is his 5th match, which means he'll absolutely be appearing in the May rankings list. How high? We'll find out!

UPDATED FOR MAY 2025:

While you're waiting for Rebellion results, wet your whistle with some ELO for May! Rebellion obviously doesn't factor into this, but May Day does!

I'll also take the time to announce now that June will see the first of a few tweaks of ELO that I'm looking at putting in. That one will be a bit more of a Version 1.1, while I also start testing some more robust Version 2 changes with the aim to better reward wins and see some bigger changes in these rankings. Those changes won't land until later in the year after I see if I've got the formula changes right, but hopefully it makes these more exciting and allows for more impact for knocking off people higher up the list than you!

Getting back to this month...

ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED!!!
  • Ladies and gentlemen... please join me in giving a heartfelt congratulations to Tommy Wish, who this month ticked up his 128th recorded match in the ELO system, entering the Top 5 number of recorded matches - tied with XWF Legend Centurion at 5th.

Biggest ranking rise:
  • James Shark - There was only one choice here. The Universal Champion defended successfully at May Day and it was enough to see him rise up 2 spots in the rankings this month! June will be interesting though...

Highest debut/return:
  • King Kieran - I flagged him last month to keep your eye one, and after going to a draw with Mark Flynn at May Day, the reigning AND defending King of the XWF returns to the list at number 3

ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED!!! PART TWO!
  • Sebastian Everett-Bryce - This month SEB ticks up his 7th month in total at the number one spot, tying Corey Smith at 5th place for most total months at number one (regardless of how many reigns)! Congrats, and thank you for being the flag bearer for the fed that you have been.

Eyes on:
  • Charlie Nickles - With two achievements to acknowledge this month, I'm going to cheat again with this nod. Knowing what we know about how Rebellion is going to pan out given the rps. Charlie Nickles has a big ratings gain coming his way in June. What will that do to the rankings?

Big update here for people! Biggest I've ever written actually in terms of sheer words.

INTRODUCING ELO v1.1

Some bigger changes are coming to ELO after seeing room for improvement in several areas to better adapt this system - known for its use in Chess and later extended to such events as Magic The Gathering tournaments and even the official FIFA World Rankings for football - to the efed world.

But, there is a change that can be made now! This won't affect what you see in the rankings here, but it will affect what's happening in the background.

Introducing: Rating degradation following inactivity.

So, the long and skinny of this is that behind the rankings list published each month is another list that includes characters that are active but have not yet met the 'activity test' for inclusion. Using Aidan Collins this month as an example - he has only had 2 matches since returning, and so does not feature on the June rankings. But did he have to start from scratch at match 1? No. Because Aidan - under the moniker 'Blizzard' - was included in the published list throughout 2014. And after that, he also appeared at the XX event in 2019. So he has points on record and they have been retained. In fact, as of this month there are 1,646 characters on the 'inactive' list since January 2013 (oh I wish how I had access to all the records since 1999). Each of those 1,646 characters' data has been retained and can be used if they show up again, just like Aidan has.

Now, there are two things to note about that list:
1) New characters start at 1600 rating points. And yet, of the June 2025 list, only 7 characters are below this mark. Most of the characters below this mark are on the inactive list, because in general, characters who are unsuccessful in a fed (any fed, not just XWF) tend to leave. So what does this mean? More points are being added to the system than are being lost.
2) The curious case of John Madison. Maddy was dominant in 2013 and 2014 and has earned his spot in the XWF Hall of Legends. Maddy also has the highest recorded ELO rating. If he were to return to tomorrow, he would have a rating of 2198.71. He could, theoretically, lose to the lowest rated character 5 times in a row and still appear at the top of the rankings. That's weird, right?

I want to favour those who are here competing week-in week-out. I also want to correct course on the overabundance of points being added to the system.

So... from this list and moving forward, characters who are inactive and OVER 1600 rating points, will start to lose their points. This is scaled - someone at 1700 points will lose 1 a month, someone at over 2000 points (currently this is only Maddy, Robert Main, and ALIAS) will lose 10 a month, and there are some different thresholds along the way too. But, this is in place now, and I'll see how it looks in the next 6 months or so when ELO 2.0 is likely to drop.

Any questions, always happy to answer them. I'll update the info thread with more specifics when I get around to it.

On to June...!

UPDATED FOR JUNE 2025!

WHAT. A. MONTH. 1 PPV, 2 Warfares, 1 Anarchy - we have BIG CHANGES.

Namely...

Trumpets please...

AAAAAAANNNNNNNNNDDDDDDD NNNNNNNEEEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWW!!!!
  • After seven months on top, losing the tag titles cost Sebastian Everett-Bryce a lot more than he gained by winning them, and he has finally been knocked off! And what do you expect when somebody holds a title in the XWF for almost 300 days and has been nipping right at the previous number one's heels? Congratulations should go to MICHEAL GRAVES allegedly. So weird that he seemed to inherit someone else's points to help him get so high up the rankings, right? Speaking of that though...

ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED!!!
  • Do you know what's really weird? This is allegedly the first time that Micheal Graves has been at the top of the rankings and yet... somehow he has now tied Robert Main for the most total months as the number 1 ranked character - with 27 months in total. So weird. He also somehow allegedly dubiously conceivably moves into 3rd place on the most individual reigns at number 1, tied with Sebastian Duke at 3.

Enough about that guy though, time to gush over another...

ANOTHER ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED!!!
  • This one is long overdue and is on me for the delay. Some characters wear masks for a bit, and then don't. It's the same character. Under these rankings, Mankind, Dude Love, and Cactus Jack would all be the same. Meanwhile, some are bodies inhabited by supernatural entities for a bit, and then aren't, or the entity changes, or whatever. I catch some of both of these. I don't catch all. Or I interpret it wrong. I definitely interpreted this one wrong. This month, Mr. Oz ticked up 100 matches with the XWF. What a trooper! Truth is... he probably did this a long time ago. Because Mr. Oz should have shared the same history as Ghost Tank, but I didn't capture that at the time. So... not only does Oz now become just the 15th member of the 100 club on his own merits, merging Ghost Tank's data into his now rockets him up to 153 matches in total, placing him in the top 5 for most matches in XWF history. Shout out to Oz, thank you for your service, AND as an added bonus... from next month, Oz will start with a higher rating and ranking than in this month due to this merge as well. There's a reason that doesn't take effect until next month though, and that's because I wanted this next point to stand on its own...

Biggest ranking rise - TIE
  • Mr. Oz  (+7). If I completed the merge this month, this feat wouldn't stand out. Don't be sleeping on Oz on Anarchy, guys! This has happened already this year, but he went another month undefeated and he feels almost destined to pick up another title at the challenging 1k limit sometime soon!
  • Lucy Wylde (+7). If War Games didn't put everyone on notice, they should be very scared now. A few months ago, Lucy fell on the wrong side of a bunch of newcomers coming in after she took a couple of heavy losses. I called it then that she had the potential to rise again, and now? I told you so. She's the TV Champ and carving up everyone in a reign that is starting to remind me our current Universal Champion's tenures with the title. It's bittersweet getting a TV Title opportunity when it means facing a champ like Lucy. Good luck to the rest of you.

Highest debut/return:
  • Dickie Watson - Don't be fooled by them being the only name eligible for this nod this month. Do you know what it takes to knock off Emilia Glazkov and Aurora in the same month? Dickie has it. As a long time fan of their work before they joined XWF, I'm glad to see them NARROWLY avoid being bumped into the inactive list and having to reset their activity test. They've been dipping their toes in our pool throughout the year, but winning the X-Treme Championship this month (for however short it lasted) was a cannonball into the deep end. And even though they enter the ELO rankings at only 24th, rest assured that this is a shark that just got added to our pond.

Eyes on:
  • Charlie Nickles and Dolly Waters. I had to mention Charlie. One of the most active members of the fed finally winning the Universal Championship is a homegrown moment for us to be proud of. And this Leap of Faith main event? It just doubles down on that. Whoever walks away with the title, the XWF wins. Even though they're right next to each other in the rankings, Charlie has the bigger chance to shake things up higher up the card. But I'm always a fan of Dolly Waters being in the top 10. Could the top 5 be in sight?
  • Tatiana Jolee. I almost hate to point her out so I don't jinx her, but I already did when I put up the Star of the Month thread. 2-0 in June, and a rise of 6 ranking rises almost forced me to include her with Lucy and Oz above. Tatiana is a perfect example of momentum building, and I'm excited to see if it can continue to grow.
