It's been a long time since I've seen my husband face to face. The last time I saw him, was the day our son Thaddeus was interred in his tomb back inside Sebastian's Compound. Even then, we didn't so much as even say hello. I've not had the desire to even go back there until recently. I can't even really explain it other than to say that for all we have been through and all we will go through in the future, I absolutely do love him. And I do miss him.
Among other reasons I don't really care to explain, I just want my husband back. I know Thaddeus' death took its toll on both of us. I'm not ashamed to admit that I ran like a scared little girl. It's not right, but it is the truth and there's not a thing I can do to change my role in our split.
For what it's worth, I was nervous even calling and reaching out to him. He's not the easiest person to get a hold of in an emotional level. Even through the phone I felt his. His anger toward me for leaving him, his pain for the loss of our son, and even the love we still share.
Now that I'm here, at my favorite restaurant that he ever so graciously offered to pay for, I'm even more nervous. I'm dressed in a black evening gown with black heels and I can't step shaking my leg. He's not here yet and I've begun to wonder if he'll stand me up. I must have checked the clock a dozen times in no more than thirty seconds. Those thirty seconds felt like thirty minutes.
All at once, something happens that instantly puts me at ease. My nervousness is gone. My worries are gone. That small event was the feeling of a strong hand on my right shoulder. I know his touch. There is no doubt in my mind that, that hand belong to Sebastian. Without even turning around, I place my hands on his, then lean my head against it.
CAITLYN: “I've missed you.”
For some reason, he doesn't say anything.
HOSTESS: “Duke, party of two.”
Man, when they say reservation for 6:10, they mean 6:10.
HOSTESS: “Right this way.”
We take our seats and before long, the wine begins to flow, and so does the conversation.
CAITLYN: “So, I see you got yourself out of that undoubted lifetime prison sentence.”
SEBASTIAN DUKE: “I'd rather not talk about that.”
CAITLYN: “I know, just thought I'd mention it.”
SEBASTIAN DUKE: “Before this goes anywhere, I need to know.”
CAITLYN: “Know what?”
SEBASTIAN DUKE: “Why you left me.”
I takes a long swallow from my wine glass, refill it to the top, then drink all of that too. I wasn't prepared for this right off the bat. Although I guess I should have been.
CAITLYN: “I don't know if I can really answer that.”
SEBASTIAN DUKE: “I think you need to try.”
CAITLYN: “I just couldn't handle it.”
SEBASTIAN DUKE: “Thaddeus is gone. Nothing I do can change that.”
CAITLYN: “I was in a dark place...”
He just shakes his head, and gives me no response.
CAITLYN: “What?”
SEBASTIAN DUKE: “Nothing.”
CAITLYN: “C'mon! You can talk to me.”
SEBASTIAN DUKE: “You think you were in a dark place? Try being me. Try going back in time to bring the love of my life back. Try being the one that caused a rift in the time continuum in the first place. Try being the reason your infant son ages 15 years in a second. Try being a half second too late to save his life. Try being the one that held him as he passed.
“You only had to see the end result, Caitlyn.
“I saw it all.
“Don't feed me excuses about dark places, because I've been there.”
This is not going well.
CAITLYN: “I know. You're right. I guess I never considered that fact, Sebastian. I'm sorry.”
Hopefully my sincere apology eases what little tension exists.
CAITLYN: “I guess the real reason is because you were so distant. I had no one to share my grief with. You were gone so long, then when you came back and Thaddeus was lost forever, you retreated to that damn dungeon and I was all alone.
“So I figure, what the hell, he doesn't care about how I'm feeling, so fuck him. I'm done.”
SEBASTIAN DUKE: “I guess I was a little selfish.”
CAITLYN: “I needed to grieve too.”
SEBASTIAN DUKE: “So what are we doing here, exactly?”
CAITLYN: “I guess I want to see if we can work it out, Sebastian. I do miss you. I miss helping you with your work. I miss it all.”
He chugs the Budweiser he just had delivered to him. Gone in seconds.
SEBASTIAN DUKE: “The only way thats going to work is if you come back to the Compound. I'm not commuting back and forth to Boston. Not by plane. Not by car. Not by anything. I'm far too busy to do that all over again.”
CAITLYN: “Can I tell you the truth?”
He doesn't answer, instead, he just stares across the table at me.
CAITLYN: “I wanted you to say that. I just need to be back in that environment again. It's like, once you're there, it can consume you. It kind of becomes part of you.”
He continues to stare, but this time, there's a slight twinkle in his eye.
SEBASTIAN DUKE: “So, you actually want to come back?”
CAITLYN: “Yes.
“I didn't want to leave. I really didn't. I just didn't know what else to do. Everything was just gone. Thaddeus is dead and it hurts everyday. And I know you hurt too, Sebastian. The way I see it, why should we hurt separately? Why not come together? Why not use our separate strength together to fight the pain together?”
SEBASTIAN DUKE: “I don't think it's that simple.”
CAITLYN: “How do you know? How do you know if you don't even try?”
SEBASTIAN DUKE: “I didn't say I wasn't willing to try.”
Oh good. That's a relief.
SEBASTIAN DUKE: “I only said it wasn't that simple.”
CAITLYN: “What do you think your father will think?”
SEBASTIAN DUKE: “He'll be fine. He's too busy screwing Enigma's mother.”
CAITLYN: “His acceptance of me is important, Sebastian. The others look up to him so much. If he doesn't accept me, neither will they.”
SEBASTIAN DUKE: “Even if he doesn't, it's not like they're mindless drones just following orders. They can and do think for themselves.”
CAITLYN: “I just want everything to be okay again.”
SEBASTIAN DUKE: “Are you really that hungry?”
CAITLYN: “No.”
SEBASTIAN DUKE: “Good, let's split.”
CAITLYN: “What?”
SEBASTIAN DUKE: “Let's get out of here. We have some making up to do.”
He grabs my arm and pulls me with him as he rushes out of the restaurant. Within seconds, he shoves me into the back of the Tahoe where Jake and Eric are waiting.
CAITLYN: “Hi guys.”
JACOB, THE MESSENGER: “That was quick.”
ENIGMA: “How'd you get served that quickly?”
SEBASTIAN DUKE: “We didn't.”
JACOB, THE MESSENGER: “I don't get it.”
SEBASTIAN DUKE: “Just drive us to the Boston Harbor Hotel.”
Eric puts the Tahoe in gear and begins driving away.
ENIGMA: “Hotel? What f...
“Ohhhhhhhh.”
JACOB, THE MESSENGER: “Really?”
ENIGMA: “Shut up.”
SEBASTIAN DUKE: “Guys, please. Not now.”
CAITLYN: “They still fight like kids?”
SEBASTIAN DUKE: “Never ends.”

The rest of the night was.... glorious.... to say the least. I really want to just sleep now as I'm completely exhausted. But I must wait. Sebastian has fallen asleep with his arm beneath my head. It's not long before what I'm waiting for finally comes trough.
My phone vibrates on the end table. I quickly look back at Sebastian and realize he's still asleep. I reach for my phone and load up my latest text message.
CURTIS: “Tell me you've been successful.”
CAITLYN: “Target acquired.”
CURTIS: “Good. Play it cool for now. Wait for further instruction.”
Fade to Darkness.
